I am a legally blind entrepreneur. I grew up in a family run business — supermarkets, and I've operated my own businesses since I was 21 years old. My first business was a West Coast Video franchise. In 2004, I started Digital Graphics Design (http://www.DGDesign.net) with a business partner. I continue to manage that, but do very little design work due to my lack of eye sight. In 2006, my wife and I purchased Salon Supplies + Interiors, a beauty supply and salon equipment distributor/manufacturer. We launched http://www.ForMySalon.com in March of that year to promote the business. In July, 2009, we launched our ecommerce site ForYourSalon.com, selling beauty supplies and salon equipment nationally. In 2008, I began writing about living with low vision on my blog iCantCU.com. I've dabbled in affiliate marketing over the years, but as my eye sight fades, I want to make a big push into it so that I can support my family once my sight is completely gone.

David,
Wow, what an inspiring story. It's a privilege to have you. Is your wife also involved in your businesses? Do you think it's possible for you to continue working in this field? (and if not, how much time do you think you have?)

Thanks for the kind words Marc. Most of what I do wouldn't be possible without my wife. In our beauty supply business, she is the one that pulls, packs, and delivers or ships the orders, does the bookkeeping, and places most of the orders from vendors/manufacturers (with my input.) In the web development company, I have a partner that does most of the designing (though I love doing this and give it a go when I'm having a good sight day.) I also have a friend that helps out and we also outsource if we are busy.
I don't know how long I'll be able to continue to do what I do. I get very frustrated. I've had low vision my entire life, so it's not new.

Hi David,
Welcome to this Forum,
Looking at your websites I would say you are way ahead of most people joining this forum and as your eyesite fails I believe your knowledge will increase and diversify, necessity being the mother of invention and all that.
Could be you have to look more at outsourcing and there are plenty of sources and forums for that.
I came accross this a while ago that you may find useful for your "bad eye" days http://bz9.com/naturalreader
I shouldn't think there is any need to go for any of the paid versions right now, the free download is quick and simple to use.
I hope you find this useful and with you and your wife all the very best for the coming year.

I have a tremendous amount of amazing free resources that I am happy to share with you.
Just let me know what type of thing you need or are interested in and I'll see if I have it.

Will do Marc. Hopefully the minor surgery I'm having in a few weeks will keep my vision stable.
