I am thrilled to join Marc's Lifestyle Design School as a charter member and excited to meet (at least virtually) new friends with a passion for the computer, website design and all that encompasses.
For over a decade I have dedicated countless hours for a local all-volunteer 501c3 non-profit, the Truckee Donner Historical Society. I wear many hats, one which is maintaining and updating their website (truckeehistory.org). The website was created in 2002 using Front Page (by a volunteer who moved to Florida) with no system for easy management for a non-techie.
In late 2007 I volunteered yet again for the task to try and learn how to update our web site. I self-learned how to use Adobe Dreamweaver and other Adobe programs to maintain the site but found these programs to be too complex for any of our other volunteers to learn to use.
When I discovered Marc's WordPress Academy online, I signed up and began creating a new Word Press website (wordpress.truckeehistory.org, which when done my host will transfer over to our existing domain name) in my dream to pass-along my website duties.
Needless to say through Marc's webinars, I found a contact management system like Word Press, to be an inexpensive way to move forward without another member needing to go through a new website learning curve.
Besides the benefit I hope to be able to provide TDHS with a new Word Press based website, I also have a personal goal to take all of my new found knowledge and computer skills and make a new career designing websites for others.
I have not yet mapped out my own personal career path although I am anxious to take it one step at a time allowing for self-enrichment, financial independence, allowing more time to spend with my husband and family.
Thank you Marc for providing opportunities. So to new beginnings!!
Billie
